Who are we?

Thesis, a digital agency in Portland, OR. We're hell-bent on humanizing the relationship between people and brands, which starts with our teams: real people making real work.

The name is new-ish to us, but we've been around for 20 years. In contrast to our former identity that reflected what we do, we chose the name Thesis as it better represents how we do it: a full-service agency that believes our strength is in our approach—that the work we make is only as strong as the thought—and data—we put behind it. 

That sounds intense. But we also understand and respect boundaries you may have.

The Job

The Senior Designer is a detail-obsessed maker, a culture-hound, a product geek, or someone who is constantly redesigning the world around you. This role will work directly with the design director and design leads while mentoring and supporting other team members in delivering exceptional creative work.  As a senior designer, you know more than just the ropes. You are a master in your craft—thinking in multiple dimensions, with a well-defined approach to motion design—and the skills to efficiently deliver high-level work. You communicate clearly and know how to inspire. Along with your experience, you bring talent, technique, and an unflinching pursuit of excellence. You never settle. You have a track record of exceptional work, yet you’re still driven to hone new skills and experiment with new tools and new techniques. You will create and execute motion/animation work alongside our designers, writers, and developers and in collaboration with client services, our clients, and other partners. You seek out collaboration with teammates to constantly shape an environment that far surpasses the status quo. You have a hardworking disposition, deliver above and beyond what’s expected. You are a self-starter who actively solves problems. You have no issues working either autonomously or collaboratively and can take on several concurrent projects without skipping a beat while keeping your cool. You have a point of view and know-how to effectively articulate it to the team. You model greatness while providing professional and creative structure to the studio. 

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Ability to work on multiple jobs simultaneously while feeling comfortable with changing workflows and priorities. 
• Ability to maintain and adhere to brand guidelines, including calling out when and where they don’t make sense. 
• Exceptional organizational, listening, and communication skills. 
• Experience working on global brands. 
• Adaptable to changing client needs and priorities. 
• Demonstrated excellence in content services, motion design, and 3D animation. (Interest in VR, and related digital work a plus). 
• Solid core design competency, including creative ideation, type and color theory, scale, and composition. 
• Strong familiarity with current trends in design and animation.
• Experience leading design teams and mentoring junior designers is a plus.
• Experience with prototyping tools like Invision and Flinto is a plus. 
• Experience retouching at a global brand level is a plus. 
• Exceptional organizational, listening, and communication skills. 
• Detail master: No pixel, no comma, no inconsistency escapes your gaze. Create pixel-perfect output for our clients. Establish and maintain best production practices. Seek out and destroy the loose ends: one element that’s a tad out of alignment, kerning that is just slightly off, a misplaced comma, and a stray extra space. 
• Driven self-starter: You take full ownership of your work and the work of your team. You establish best practices and new workflows whenever necessary. 
• Flexible and responsive: You receive and give feedback well, and you approach changes with a positive attitude. 
• Problem solver: You understand the clients’ and users’ needs before any pixel gets placed. You believe everything can be improved and you see new challenges as new opportunities. 
• Roll up your sleeves: You’re willing to help out wherever needed—producing all kinds of outputs 2d with 3d capability—while driving and maintaining design consistency across deliverables. 
• Team player: You don’t win on your own and you look out for those around you. Be a core part of our creative team, helping to deliver excellent work across a variety of media. ● Able to work in our Portland office. 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE 

• Bachelor’s degree in design, animation or motion graphics (or comparable experience).
• Four-plus years of experience in a design studio or agency (or comparable experience).
• A portfolio and experience that demonstrate your ability to deliver accuracy and consistency. 

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS 

• Working knowledge of production processes, technologies, and design.
• Expert knowledge of industry-standard software (Adobe CC, After Effects, Cinema 4D, and/or similar). 
• Working knowledge of Asana or other project management software.
• Working knowledge of the Google Suite (Drive, Docs, etc.).
