Who are we?
Thesis, a digital agency in Portland, OR. We’re hell-bent on humanizing the relationship between people and brands, which starts with our teams: real people making real work.
Come as you are. Bring what you bring. We’ve been around for 20 years. In contrast to our former identity that reflected what we do, we chose the name Thesis as it better represents how we do it: a full-service agency believing our strength is in our approach—believing how the work we make is only as strong as the thought—and data—we put behind it. That sounds intense. But make no mistake, we also play real hard.
The Job
The Senior Designer, UI/UX works directly with the Design Lead and design director while partly mentoring (you are a senior designer after all) and supporting other team members in delivering exceptional creative, digital work. They excel in creating beautiful user experiences—and know how to organize, sort and help make experiences feel natural while also building best-in-class features and amazing UI. Empathy, clear communication and inspiring others are critical to this position’s success. The Sr Designer, UI/UX will bring experience, talent, technique, and an unflinching pursuit of excellence. The role requires a track record of exceptional work, yet still driven to hone new skills and experiment with new tools and new techniques. The Senior Designer, UI/UX will create, build and produce digital experiences alongside other designers, writers, and developers in collaboration with client services, the clients, and other partners. You should care intensely about your work without conflating work ego with personal ego. While you’ll be working closely with clients, our agency’s integrated teams collaborate equally and share accountability, in failure and success alike. Be prepared to let the best ideas rise to the top.
As a person, you are
An experienced Senior Designer obsessed with every detail about user experience and digital execution. You understand how to follow through and execute on an idea from research, strategy, experience and design. You excel at simplifying complex information, seek out as much background and contextual data you can find to help build the best wireframes and user experiences as possible. You’re not afraid to try new ideas, to push what’s possible, and you’re willing to start anywhere, with anything, and iterate your way to the right thing. You find inspiration in unlikely places and spread it throughout the room. You set the bar high and show your team how to aspire to that level too. Whoever works with you is inspired to bring their best game. Your influence comes through the work first and foremost. You unlock experiential, visual and interactive opportunities through execution, sell your ideas passionately, and elevate the work of the entire team through active mentorship.
As a worker, you will
Have blue-sky thinking while staying grounded and keeping clients’ goals in mind. You are not afraid of conflict, actively working with colleagues and/or partners to resolve issues. You are trusted by your coworkers, collaborative with partners, and the management team. You keep a level head under pressure. You take initiative and leap at mentorship opportunities. You effectively communicate with all parties involved in the projects you’re on. You have the ability to understand the big picture while zeroing in on the details. You are comfortable making judgment calls as necessary, knowing when to consult colleagues and management. You communicate and present work effectively, collaborating closely with clients and team members from discovery through delivery.
